Mason Records Ace, Tucker Leads Cougars at Pac-10 Championships

April 28, 2008

FAIRFAX, Calif. - Washington State senior Jordan Mason recorded a hole-in-one, and redshirt sophomore Kevin Tucker led a contingent of Cougars to highlight WSU's opening day of competition at the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference Men's Golf Championships, Monday.

Tucker posted an opening-round 3-under 68 at the par-71, 6,686-yard Meadow Club, tying for the third-lowest single-round score at the conference tournament in school history. The Kennewick, Wash., native led the tournament through much of the first round. Tucker posted a second-round 74 (+3), giving him a 36-hole total of 142 (E) and placing him in a tie for 17th headed into Tuesday's third round.

"Tucker was on fire for a while," WSU Head Coach Walt Williams said. "He was 8-under at one point."

Mason recorded the second ace of his collegiate career during the second round, knocking it in from 156 yards on the par-three second hole. Mason shot 75 (+4) in the second round after opening with a 3-over 74 for a two-round total of 149 (+7).

"Mason hit an eight iron just right of the hole and spun it right in," Williams said.

Sophomore Austin Hurt shot 151 (+9), redshirt freshman Xavier Dailly posted a 153 (+11), sophomore Nick Grigsby carded a 154 (+12) and freshman Nick Ellis finished day one with a 159 (+17) to round out the Cougar scorers.

"We got off to a great start, but for whatever reason we just collapsed," Williams said. "We hit it pretty well, but we had a few three-putts and even a few four-putts."

As a team the Cougars posted a two-round total of 749 (+39) and enter Tuesday's third round in 10th place. WSU will begin the third round Tuesday with an 8 a.m. tee-time. Live stats are available at www.golfstat.com, and final round results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com.
